Institutional Eligibility to Administer CIHR Grant and Award Funds
CIHR does not provide grant and award funds directly to the recipient but rather to the recipient's institution. The institution, often referred to as the "Institution Paid", holds the funds and administers a CIHR account from which the recipient can draw upon.
Before recipients' grant and award funds can flow to an Institution Paid the institution must apply to obtain a CIHR Common Grant and Award account by completing the eligibility requirements process and signing the Agreement on the Administration of Agency Grants and Awards by Research Institutions.
CIHR will only consider an Institution's request for eligibility to administer recipients' grant and award funds when:
- the institution is not affiliated with an institution that is eligible to administer CIHR grant and award funds and has at least one individual who has successfully applied for funding from CIHR; or,
- the institution is affiliated with an institution that is eligible to administer CIHR grant and award funds and has at least five individuals who have successfully applied for funding from CIHR.
