Message from the President – CIHR Response to the International Review Panel Recommendations
I am delighted to present the CIHR response and action plan to the International Review Panel (IRP) recommendations.Developed under the strategic direction of CIHR's Governing Council (GC), the CIHR response and action plan takes a pragmatic approach to addressing the 16 IRP recommendations.
I am pleased to note that many of the recommendations will be addressed through the continued implementation of the CIHR strategic plan, Health Research Roadmap, as well as national leadership with respect to Canada's Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research. Additional activities include the formation of a GC Working Group to examine the current mandates and slate of CIHR Institutes, and the development of focussed strategies to improve CIHR's performance in key areas and the achievement of the CIHR mandate.
I will report regularly to CIHR's Governing Council on management's progress in implementing the action plan and will develop the identified strategies with the advice of the Scientific Directors and stakeholders, for GC approval. GC will continue to oversee the implementation of Health Research Roadmap.
For this second five-year international review, CHIR welcomed the input and insights of the IRP with enthusiasm. CIHR's Governing Council acknowledges and thanks the Scientific Directors for their outstanding leadership. A special thank you to Dr. Zerhouni, the members of the International Review Panel and the Expert Review Teams, as well as all those who participated in the review for their valuable contribution into this important process.
I wish to assure you that CIHR is committed to fulfilling its mandate and to improving the health of Canadians by addressing each area noted in the review.
