CIHR bilateral and multilateral collaborations
CIHR is committed to pursuing and promoting international collaborations by joining forces with other health research funders with similar priorities and values. Together we seek to tackle pressing health challenges while sharing expertise and avoiding duplication. Enhancing diversity, fostering equity and inclusion, and strengthening Indigenous relations is also integral to our collaborative efforts.
Over the last 20 years CIHR's international collaborations have steadily risen. CIHR currently has more than 50 active international agreements with partners from Europe, Asia, North America, Oceania and Africa. For example, CIHR pursues:
- ambitious and successful international partnerships in conjunction with Canadian partners like the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC); and the International Development Research Center (IDRC).
- bilateral agreements with countries such as the United States of America, Australia, South Africa, Japan and many others are adding incredible value in advancing some of common research priorities.
- multilateral agreements negotiated among multiple countries, including international programs such as the Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) and others under the European Framework Programme.
