The CIHR Human Immunology Initiative is led by the CIHR Institute of Infection and Immunity in collaboration with the CIHR Institutes of Gender and Health, Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis and Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes.

Human Immunology Initiative: Standardization Core

The Human Immunology Initiative: Standardization Core will support a collaborative team that will constitute a best practices platform and develop and validate SOPs for autoimmune disease research in the field of human immunology by aligning with work conducted at the international level. The aim of the Standardization Core is to create common measurements, indicators and outcomes that can be used for comparative purposes across populations and studies, including identifying and addressing ethical issues. The standardization core will work in consultation with the Human Immunology Research Teams and the research community, to ensure that they respond to the needs and priorities of the research community.

Human Immunology Initiative: Research Teams

The Human Immunology Initiative: Research Teams will improve knowledge on the human immune system, as it relates to autoimmune disease and sex-related mechanisms to better understand health and disease, and to develop novel therapies against autoimmune diseases.

The objectives of the Human Immunology Research Teams funding opportunity are to:

  • Generate new scientific knowledge that will advance our understanding of human immunology as it relates to autoimmune diseases, with appropriate consideration of sex-related mechanisms, in order to improve the health of Canadians living with autoimmune diseases.
  • Leverage the Standardization Core by encouraging collaboration with the Core and utilization of the Core’s research methodologies where possible
  • Develop and strengthen research capacity by providing training opportunities to the next generation of human immunology researchers in the field of autoimmune diseases.
