Message from the President: Update on the strategic plan
Dear colleagues,
I wanted to take this opportunity to provide a quick update on the strategic planning process.
Last week, on December 13, 2019, CIHR hosted a Health Research Summit in Ottawa. I want to thank the approximately 200 people who provided their advice and perspectives to CIHR. Your input is essential to getting this strategic plan just right. I would especially like to thank the members of the Citizen Advisory Committee and Funding Partners Advisory Committee for providing important perspectives during the Summit.
I was cheered by the productive discussion we had together at the Summit regarding CIHR’s proposed strategic priorities, which focused on answering the following questions:
- What are the critical success factors for achieving our proposed strategic priorities? and
- How will our proposed strategic priorities enable CIHR to achieve its mandate and long-term vision to reduce inequities in health outcomes among Canadians?
I know you are all eager to learn what CIHR’s new strategic priorities will be, and I very much look forward to sharing them with you in June 2020 when we launch our new strategic plan. Between now and then, however, we still have a great deal of work to do as we further refine the plan. This will include ongoing detailed consultations and review as I and my colleagues travel the country seeking your engagement.
I will follow up with you in the coming months on our progress. Until then, thank you for your continued engagement in this process.
Sincerely,
Michael Strong, MD, FRCP, FCAHS, FAAN
President, CIHR
