We are pleased to announce that IHDCYH is supporting the following six Race, Gender and Diversity Initiative projects:
- Andrea Emberly (York University) - Singing our stories: Networking community musical practices with refugee and newcomer children and young people
- Sally Lindsay (University of Toronto) - Discrimination, ableism and racism hurt but inclusion can heal: Listening to the intersectional lived experiences of youth with disabilities and co-creating solutions
- Lourdes Rodriguez del Barrio (Université de Montréal) - Alliance de recherche et d'action Alternatives inclusives en Santé mentale
- Lee Schaefer (University of Saskatchewan) - Mitho Miskawawin: Moving well together to enhance Indigenous girls' sport and physical activity opportunities
- Sana Shahram (The University of British Columbia) - A Perinatal Collaborative Community Laboratory on Substance Use and Harm Reduction: The Mothering Co/Lab
- Zoua Vang (McGill University) - Anti-Indigenous racism and cultural safety in maternal and child healthcare for Inuit: Perspectives from Arviat, Nunavut
The main goal of the Race, Gender and Diversity Initiative is to fund community-based and community-led research partnerships with postsecondary institutions that are grounded in the lived experience of underrepresented and/or marginalized groups and that analyze the causes and persistence of systemic racism and discrimination. It is expected that the three-year partnership grants offered under this initiative will serve as hubs for challenge-oriented, community-led and community-based intersectional research and knowledge mobilization activities that incubate new research partnerships.
Of the 46 projects funded by this initiative, 29 are SSHRC-funded and 17 are co-funded by SSHRC and CIHR. Read the full news release
Congratulations to the teams funded in this initiative! IHDCYH is looking forward to sharing your work as these projects progress!
