Overview
The THINC Knowledge Mobilization and Impact Hub (hereinafter called the THINC Impact Hub) concept stems from an evidence-informed and community-engaged funding design process that IHSPR used in the development of the overall THINC initiative. A key component of the THINC initiative, the Impact Hub will operate as a single, pan-Canadian hub and coordinating centre to build and support a vibrant, pan-Canadian learning community involving all THINC program grantees and knowledge user communities, including policymakers, administrators, health care providers, patient and public. The overarching aim of the Impact THINC Impact Hub will be to support and advance evidence-informed integrated care transformation and catalyze progress towards achieving the Quadruple Aim and health equity.
Objectives
The objectives of the THINC Impact Hub are to:
- Foster coordination, shared learning, and collaboration across THINC grantees and knowledge user communities.
- Support capacity development in domains critical to the success and impact of THINC grantees and knowledge user communities.
- Lead initiative-wide KM activities to bolster the dissemination, translation and equitable uptake of evidence related to integrated care.
- Amplify and evaluate the collective impact of THINC projects towards achieving Quadruple Aim goals and health equity.
Relevant Research Areas
The THINC Impact Hub will lead, support and amplify the KM and impact of the broader initiative and its program components, including:
- THINC Implementation Science Teams
- Integrated care-related Policy Research for Health System Transformation teams
- Integrated care-related Health System Impact Fellows and Embedded Early Career Researchers (anticipated, pending internal approvals)
The THINC Impact Hub will incorporate six (6) core elements in its design and approach:
- Build and support a THINC learning community.
- Foster meaningful engagement among THINC stakeholder communities.
- Develop capacity in domain areas of relevance across the THINC initiative.
- Advance knowledge mobilization and evidence support.
- Amplify collective impact across the THINC initiative.
- Robust governance plan for Hub leadership and operations.
Eligibility
- A Nominated Principal Applicant (NPA) appointed at an eligible institution.
- At least one Principal Knowledge User (PKU) responsible for co-leading funded activities with the NPA.
- PKU must hold an active leadership position within a health system organization have experience in integrated care, engagement and/or knowledge mobilization activities.
- The Hub team must include each of the following among its NPA, PKU, Principal Applicant, Co-Applicant and Knowledge User roles:
- Scientific Lead experienced in integrated care, implementation science, policy research and/or knowledge mobilization.
- Knowledge Mobilization and Brokering Lead experienced in knowledge mobilization, engagement, and collaboration.
- Impact Lead experienced in impact science, collective impact approaches, and/or program evaluation.
- Community Engagement Champions:
- Systems Champion that is a health system decision maker to support and foster Hub's engagement with decision makers and health system organizations.
- Community Champion that is a patient, person with lived or living experience, or a community member to support and foster Hub's connection and meaningful engagement with people with lived/living experience.
- Provider Champion experienced in delivering integrated care to support and foster Hub's connection and meaningful engagement with health care providers and provider groups.
- Sex and Gender, Indigenous Health Research and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Champions to foster Sex and Gender and EDI in team composition, promote cultural safety and meaningful engagement with Indigenous Peoples, add value to research through use of Indigenous culturally relevant and appropriate frameworks, methodologies, protocols.
- Individuals can hold champion roles within the team in addition to a Lead role in the team.
Funds Available
The anticipated total amount available from CIHR-IHSPR and HIV/AIDS and STBBI Research Initiative is $2,200,000, enough to fund one (1) grant over 2023-24 to 2028-29.
Other
To facilitate the building of the THINC Impact Hub that incorporates the necessary perspectives and expertise of researchers, providers, policy/decision makers, people with lived/living with experience, a Partner Linkage tool will be available to individuals/organizations to indicate their specific areas of interest and collaboration.
