Welcome to four new IHDCYH Youth Advisory Council members
August 12, 2022
Today, on International Youth Day, CIHR-IHDCYH is pleased to welcome four new members to our Youth Advisory Council (YAC), joining ten returning members. Welcome to Robert, Ping, Eleanor and Jolie!
Every year we work to bring new voices onto the council and ensure broad representation from across Canada. Each of our members brings unique perspectives from their own communities, grounded in their personal lived experiences, educational pursuits, volunteer positions, and intersectional identities. This council is a platform for members to participate directly in activities and conversations about health research priorities relevant to the well-being of children, youth, and families in Canada and beyond.
n the past year, council members participated in consultations for IHDCYH strategic planning and funding initiative development, and brought updates to our Institute Advisory Board about council activities. Members met with other CIHR Institutes including Circulatory and Respiratory Health, Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes, and Population and Public Health to talk about youth health concerns and considerations relevant to other Institutes’ mandate areas. Council members also engaged in consultations with stakeholders including Health Canada, Healthcare Excellence Canada, the Public Health Agency of Canada, and Environment and Climate Change Canada. Members participated in panel presentations at annual conferences such as Children’s Healthcare Canada and the CCHCSP (now called ENRICH) annual symposium. Other activities included peer reviewing for the IHDCYH Talks Video competition, and judging submissions to a CHILD Study poster competition as well as a McMaster University student project competition related to the Inspiring Healthy Futures initiative. The team at IHDCYH is very proud of what the council has accomplished so far, and is looking forward to another great year!
Thank you to all applicants and our continuing council members for your engagement and for sharing your thoughts about the importance and direction of health and well-being research and services in your communities! Read about the members of our YAC on our website.
Thank you to our council members who have completed their terms and are becoming part of our YAC alumni network: Wajih, Danica, Danielle, Brett, Sarah, and Vivian!
