Biography
Dr. Claudia Paarmann-Chien (née Chien) is a Neuroscientist and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) Team Lead at the Experimental and Clinical Research Center, NeuroCure Clinical Research Center, and Department of Psychiatry and Neurosciences at the Charité- University Hospital Berlin, Germany.
Her research is focused on imaging correlates of long-term disability in neuroinflammatory diseases, such as multiple sclerosis and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders, using advanced statistical methods and machine learning. Recent projects also include investigations into the neurophysiological affection in long SARS-CoV-2 (COVID19) and seizure sufferers. She has received awards and research support from the Ontario Centre of Excellence, French Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the U.S. National Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, Cancer Research U.K., and several pharmaceutical companies.
Dr. Paarmann-Chien serves as a reviewer for scholarships and admittance into the Einstein Center for Neurosciences Berlin, is a member of the Ontario College of Teachers, project coordinator for two large international MRI studies, and a lecturer in Medical Neurosciences at the Charité-University Hospital.
Dr. Paarmann-Chien holds an honours B.Sc. in Biochemistry and Biotechnology from the University of Waterloo, an M.Sc. in Radiation Biology from Oxford University, B.Ed. in Science Education from York University, and a PhD in Medical Neurosciences from the Charité-University Hospital Berlin.
